Could your business benefit from building stronger relationships within the local business community?
The Mornington Business Collective is a volunteer group of representatives from local businesses who work together to promote the town as a destination, deliver community events, advocate on behalf of local traders, and provide support where needed. The committee is made up of fellow Mornington business owners who generously contribute their time, skills, and experience to help strengthen the success of the Mornington community. The Collective is also supported by a full‑time coordinator.
The aims of the Mornington Business Collective are to:
- Market and promote Mornington as a shopping destination and attract visitors to the area
- Initiate local events and activities that contribute to community wellbeing
- Represent and advocate for local businesses and traders in discussions with local government and key stakeholders
- Support the efforts of precinct traders
- Promote a strong and unique sense of community in Mornington
- The Mornington Business Collective consists predominantly of compulsory members within the Mornington Main Street shopping and business precinct. Associate Memberships are available to businesses located in Mornington but outside the compulsory fee boundary (see below for more information).
Join or renew your Associate Membership for only $125 per year (inc gst)!
Discover how the Mornington Business Collective can support your organisation—whether you’re a large or small business, a commercial enterprise, or a not‑for‑profit. If your business operates within the greater Mornington region, we are here to help you grow and thrive.
We encourage all Member and Associate Member businesses to connect with the Collective if you have a collaborative partnership idea that could help promote the precinct. Whether you offer a service, have a project in mind, or simply want to contribute to making Main Street Mornington the place to be, we welcome your ideas.

What is the Special Charge Scheme (SCS) Promotional Fund and how does it work?
The Special Charge Scheme (SCS) Promotional Fund is a rate or charge collected by the Mornington Peninsula Shire (MPS) on behalf of the Mornington Business Collective from property and/or business owners within a defined geographical area. The purpose of the fund is to benefit the township as a whole, rather than individual businesses.
The SCS Promotional Fund has operated since 2010 and is renewed every seven years. The next renewal is scheduled for 2027, with the process expected to take the Collective approximately 6–12 months to complete. While there is scope for individually targeted business promotions, the primary intention of the SCS Promotional Fund is to support collective advertising and promotional initiatives that enhance the profile of Mornington overall.

Christmas decorations on Main Street
Each year, there is often some confusion within the community about who is responsible for creating and installing Christmas decorations along Main Street—and, importantly, who pays for them.
The Mornington Business Collective regularly responds to these questions and works to clarify the facts, though this is sometimes met with negative or critical feedback.
To help provide greater transparency, the Collective has prepared a detailed Q&A document outlining the history of Christmas decorations on Main Street. It covers a range of common questions, including who is responsible for the decorations and what has been trialled in the past, with the aim of reducing misunderstandings and avoiding future disappointment.
