Visit Victoria’s longest running street market, picturesque beaches, historic sites & more

WITH a bayside lifestyle and history dating back 150 years, Mornington has something to spark every interest and age group. Head to Mornington any Wednesday and you’ll find the town bustling with the chatter of stallholders and locals enjoying a day out at the weekly Wednesday market. Main Street Market is Victoria’s longest running street market and after 30 years continues to delight locals and visitors alike with the home baked – home made – home grown goodies on offer from over 60 stalls throughout the Main Street of Mornington. The Main Street Wednesday Market runs from 9am to 2pm weekly.

Similarly, the Mornington Farmers Market is fast becoming an attraction with a huge variety of locally grown and produced products from across the Mornington Peninsula. Proudly run by the Mornington Chamber of Commerce, the Mornington Farmers Market takes place on the Second Saturday of each Month in the Mornington Park from 8.30am – 1pm.

For those seeking arts and culture the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery offers both traditional and contemporary Australian art and, biannually participates in the National Works on Paper one of Australia’s most prestigious awards and acquisitive exhibitions. Adjacent to the regional gallery is the historic Rose Garden and the community-based Oakhill Gallery. Mornington Rose Garden was built by volunteers during one of the longest droughts in Australia and proudly boasts over 4000 roses planted in 86 beds surrounded by a border of Australian natives.

If life’s simple pleasures are what you’re seeking then what better way to relax than with a good book in a beautiful setting. Stop by Farrell’s Bookshop, with a diverse range of titles for young and old they are sure to have something to take your fancy, after all they have been serving the Peninsula for more than 30 years!

If you’re feeling more adventurous, charter a fishing boat and take in the wonderful Mornington Peninsula coastline, or have a bet or two on the ponies at the famous Mornington Racecourse, which has become one of the most popular picnic racecourses in Victoria.

On warm summer nights, there’s no better place than Mornington park for a picnic, or pick up some fish and chips and take a wander down to the newly refurbished Mornington Pier to check out the yacht sand even take in a bit of sailing if the mood strikes.
